St. George & the Dragon

Inspiration from black and white engravings from a turn of the century German book on the collected works of Schiller, one of its literary favorite sons.

The image of St. George and the Dragon is by far the most incredible depiction that Martin has yet seen. Painted only in sepia, a lot of people really like the brown tones because they’re easy to live with, like a big adult fairy tale. The original print was a bit more graphic, so some things were not included in the translation to protect the squeamish among us.

The image from heroic literary folklore has been masterfully composed in its original black and white state and every attempt has been made to do carry the richness and pageantry of its original design. The female figures have been carefully depicted to maintain their symbolic qualities vs. their earthly qualities. The richness of color compliments the rich wood tones of the hardwood floors and sample pieces here in the company showroom.
